But
what happens when a couple has rather different
political opinions? A wife who went to a
liberal arts college and believes in a woman's
right to choose but gets married to a otherwise
good (but conservative) man who happens to believe
that women should simply shut up and listen when
men talk - and then do what they are told.

This
is a very delicate situation and here is how to
deal with it:
-
Set boundaries
for political discussion. It is fine to
have a chat after dinner in the family room but
not on the dining table or in
bed.
-
Do not take it
personally. After all, these are merely
opinions.
-
When things get
heated up, take a break. Try to resume the
discussion later on. After all you don't
make a living from politics.
-
And finally, if
politics is so important to you, mention it to
your
profile when you are
dating.
