| - | Why do people have plastic surgery? Who doesn't want to look and feel great? | Summary: We have now reached a point that someone we know has had some form of plastic or cosmetic surgery. But why do people (particularly so many men now) have plastic surgery? Below are some of the reasons identified in a recent survey by the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS). | | | | |
| Reasons for plastic surgery - Looking younger is the primary motivation for both genders.
- Men were also likely to report receiving facial cosmetic surgery for work related reasons (22 percent). Studies have shown that both good-looking men and women receive more promotions and raises and go ahead in life faster than their less attractive peers. Sounds unfair, but that is what the reality is. Human beings have a weakness for good looks and pleasant temper.
 - 23 percent of women opt for surgery to "look less tired." The tired look on the face is a symptom of not taking enough care of your facial skin, inadequate sleep, and weight gain. (Related article: How to do facials at home?)
- 17 percent of women opt for the magic of a plastic surgeon "to look/feel better."
- While most of the improvement in self esteem and confidence comes from physical changes, these physical changes themselves in turn produce emotional changes, leading to an improvement in body image.
- Over half of all patients (54 percent) have had multiple procedures in the same year. No wonder there is already a concern about addiction to plastic surgery (Reasons for plastic surgery). But in most cases, your plastic surgeon should discourage you from having a specific procedure if the results are not going to be dramatic and if you may be risking your life or health.
