Simple tips to keep your skin beautiful and indulge yourself

Photo of a woman showing off her delicate beautiful skinAs the cold weather comes and the days become shorter, our skin begins to dry. But the cooler months are a good time to pamper yourself. Here are some ideas:  (Related:  Winter skincare)

Make the daily shower a special time:   Indulge in a great soap or gel. The aroma can relax or energize you, but in any case it makes a pleasant activity even better. Some of our favorites are L'Occitane Honey Harvest Foaming Jelly ($20), Fresh SugarBath Soaps ($12), L'Occitane Shea Butter Shower Cream ($17), and Carol's Daughter Jamaican Punch ($12.50).  Please note that all prices are estimates.  (Related:  Essential skincare products)

Get a thick, rich body cream:   Cold weather takes a toll on the skin. At this time of the year, you need extra protection, and therefore, look for a rich body cream. One of the most hydrating ingredients to look for is shea butter. Many creams these days have this ingredient. If you have very dry heels, legs, or elbows, you may want to apply on these areas creams with a higher concentration of shea butter.  Among the brands that we like are L'Occitane Ultra Rich Body Cream ($36), Kiss My Face Almost Butter, Ultra Creme, Rosemary Melon ($10), Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion, Fragrance Free ($10), deluxe Shea Butter 100% Pure ($10), and Korres Natural Products Body Milk ($15).  (Related:  How to take care of feet)

Exfoliate:   It is important to exfoliate your body during the cold weather too. The exfoliation process helps the skin renew itself faster. You can make an exfoliant at home or buy any of the great products available. You can also exfoliate using a loofah. Pay special attention to rough areas like the heels.

Do a facial mask:   Clean and exfoliate your face and then apply a hydrating or nutrient-rich mask for your skin type at least once a week. Your skin will thank you for it.

Do a hair mask:   The hair also gets dry. So to solve your hair problems, try to apply a hair mask made from nutrient-rich oils, such as avocado or almond. Alternatively, put mashed avocado on the hair.  (Related:  Hair conditioners, hair color at home, hair extensions, and hair straightening)
