While I became a big fan of Masi Oka a while ago, I was not so kind towards Rinko Kikuchi earlier. At the Golden Globes, she clearly failed to impress me in that ridiculous Chanel dress. At the Oscars, however, she won my heart. My devotion to Japanese women has became even stronger now.

I think Rinko looked exactly like a Hollywood star should look on the red carpet. She is tall for a Japanese woman and this strapless (yet another Chanel) dress was ideal for her. She also seemed very comfortable on the red carpet and while she had an interpreter with her, she did manage to respond in English without much of an accent.

But a Japanese couple that clearly stood out was Ken Watanabe and Kaho Minami. She was quite a standout in her kimono. In other words, a big night for Japan in Hollywood.
