For
a while, I felt a great sense of freedom.
I know that France is very liberal and is known for some of the
wildest adventures that women have but it was not for me.
Thus, I was finally enjoying myself as I tried to eat the forbidden
fruit. Since there were no
men around, it seemed so safe too. Wasn't
it just a group of young women enjoying a girls' night out?
For
a moment, I forgot that I spoke no Japanese or that I did not know any one
of these souls few moments ago. As
we used signs and a mix of Japanese and English, we were starting to
loosen up. Didn't someone
tell me that Japanese beer tastes much better than all the European beers?
There was more to come as each one of us drowned several beers
though I had definitely not prepared myself for the Mickey Mouse theme
party to begin. I had
initially been rather surprised not to find any signs of Mickey Mouse
despite being told by Monica that it was a theme party.
In preparation for that I had simply donned my headband that I had
bought during my trip to the Disney Land in Paris a few years ago (I was
planning on visiting the Tokyo Disney Land too).
At some
point several announcements were made in Japanese and naturally I did not
follow what was being said. However, the lights were dimmed to a point that you could
barely make out the profiles of everyone in the room.
I saw everyone sitting expectedly on the floor against the wall, as
the
music in the room got louder. It
appeared that our room was being remotely controlled. A wall panel started to slide at the back of the room as
another light focused in the center.
Several lights in the ceiling were now flashing.
In came four persons all dressed as Mickey Mouse pulling a small
carriage with a seat for two people. On
one side sat a handsome man dressed in a black tuxedo.
The music got louder and the girls started to howl.
Mickey Mice danced in the center of the room and the carriage was
parked. Without a warning the
music stopped and for a moment no one moved.
The man in black elegantly got up from his seat and went to the
back of the carriage.
The
music started again. It was
much softer this time. As the
lights now focused on Miho, the birthday girl, the man gently approached
her and extended his hand. Putting
his arm around her waist, he brought her next to the carriage.
Miho was smiling though she was clearly shy too.
I saw cameras flashing as she was made to climb on the steps to the
carriage. The man
opened a gift box and took out a beautiful white dress.
There were sequined shoes that appeared to be made out of glass.
A tiara with stones! And
finally, a frilly white bra and
thong.
“Cinderella”, he shouted, as the girls gasped.
The music changed tempo again – I believe it was some kind of
traditional Japanese music as the tallest Mickey Mouse proceeded to climb
the carriage while the others danced.
The man simply stood in front of the box as a magician.
