Exercises during winter

What sports can you do to stay fit?

We have previously talked about how to take care of your skin that gets dry during winter (particularly if you live in a really cold place that also receives snow). This time we will talk about how you can exercise during the winter months to stay fit and healthy. A study by Dr. John B. Bartholomew of the exercise and sport psychology lab at the University of Texas says that just a half hour of physical activity was enough to provide a significant mood boost for patients with a major depressive disorder. In other words if you are suffering from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), the healthiest way to deal with it is to exercise.

But it might seem that during the cold winter months all we want to do is to stay in one place and keep warm not doing much. Lack of activity and exercise, however, can play havoc with your body. If you do not reduce your calorie intake you will not only gain weight, you will also become physically unfit.  But there are things that you can do that are not only a great way to burn some calories but to also have fun:

Ski. Either hit the slopes or go cross-country skiing. You can practice cross-country skiing in most national or state parks for free during the winter months.  (Related:  Cold weather skincare)

Skate. It is not only for kids. You will burn calories and you can have a good time and it is never too late to learn if you have not done it yet.  So just get your skating gear and you are ready to do it.
Go wall climbing. Interior wall climbing is very popular these days among Hollywood celebrities. It is an intensive and demanding workout that youPhoto of a woman skiing on the slopes on a clear day. can do without being outdoors.

Dance. Dancing is relaxing and fun. Take a class or go to a club. Some dance studios even offer classes for beginners. Pick the dance you like, put on your dress and shoes and you are ready to go.

Snow walking. It is fun, safe, and demanding. You will also burn a lot of calories. Just protect yourself from the cold and the wind and take care of your skin before leaving home.
