Some
of the blame for men continuing to use underwear that does
nothing for them and might even cause harm also goes to the
women in their lives, who as many of you might agree, buy it for
them. Statistics are
hard to come by but considering the reluctance of men to shop
and the likelihood that the lady of the house is more likely to
do the laundry and notice worn out underwear - women actually
end up shopping for men. And
what do they do? Rather
than change the status quo, they simply buy for him whatever he
was using the first time they met.
I
was, however, fortunate enough to interview a large number of
metrosexual men who swear by briefs and
thongs though they save
their really bold thongs only for special occasions.
Some of the advantages that I heard are sleek looks,
tighter fit, less movement of the organ, freedom to wear
tight-fit slacks and jeans, and approval from women.
No wonder Jesse Metcalfe wore a red thong in the movie "John
Tucker Must Die." (Related article: Thongs
for men on the beach)
The
women I spoke to did admit that only men know what is good for
them but they clearly preferred men in attractive color,
high-quality silk, tight-fitting briefs or thongs.
This was an important point because the ugly, cotton,
white briefs available almost anywhere for sometimes less than a
dollar each was what they absolutely hated and would rather see
someone in boxers. Colorful,
silk boxers were, therefore, an excellent alternative. It is imperative on you to find the right briefs. So you
should choose either silk or high quality cotton though nylon is
perfectly fine if you live in a cool place and do not sweat
much. Nylon also
tends to provide a tighter fit.
And it is perfectly fine, like boxers, to go for bold
prints, flowers, stripes, animal skin
print, in fact anything
that you fancy.
As
I completed my research, I learned that in many parts of the
world it is almost impossible to purchase the kind of briefs
that I am talking about. Even
in the developed world, it is not possible to just walk into any
department store and buy these since stores tend to carry
whatever sells the most – and right now it is not the kind of
underwear I am talking about.
You might have better luck going to stores that serve men
as their primary customers.
Those of you who have the means and access to shop online
or through catalogs, the choices are enormous.
As
a last resort, I have been helping several of my clients make
their own underwear. In
almost any part of the world you can buy
fabric.
In fact buying the fabric gives you a lot more choices. While you might be intimidated by the idea of sewing
something yourself at home, it is not as difficult as it seems. You can use a brief that fits you well as a guide to cut the
fabric and then simply sew it either by hand or using a
sewing machine. Many
in the developing economies tell me that tailors are actually
quite affordable and most tailors will be glad to stitch
one for them by taking their precise measurements.
If this is an option, I strongly recommend it.
