Vioxx recall controversy gets messy

New reports show that Curt D. Furberg, a member of the FDA's drug safety advisory committee, is not welcome at a FDA meeting because he has raised concern about not only Vioxx but other drugs in the COX-2 inhibitor category. As many of you know already, FDA has not done a stellar job of protecting Americans with regards to Vioxx. Many experts also believe that due to the influence of pharmaceutical companies on the current US administration, it is very unlikely that the government will do much to help Americans. In fact, it is generally expected that the Government is more likely to work to help the pharma industry, and in particular Merck, since these companies have made huge contributions to the Republican Party for Bush's reelection.
