Importing prescription drugs from Canada in Texas and Rhode Island

While the Federal Government continues to strongly oppose importing prescription drugs from Canada, something that Americans overwhelmingly support and doctors at the American Medical Association think that it is a great idea, states/towns across the United States are going ahead with allowing imports. Texas state Rep. Scott Hochberg has introduced a bill that would let Texans legally import prescription drugs from Canada. His bill would essentially allow Texas to license pharmacies approved by Canadian authorities. It is no secret that Texans routinely visit Mexico to buy their prescription drugs.

Similarly, Rhode Island has approved regulations that will allow the state to license Canadian pharmacies. By doing so, Rhode Island will become the first state in the country to let residents of the state import drugs legally. If all goes well they will be able to do so by the end of January 2005.
