Elvis Presley of Japan
Yasumasa Mori is the Elvis there

By Sasano Kawamura

I just want MYNIPPON visitors to know there is a Japanese girl who loves Elvis very much.  By the way, here in Japan we have a Japanese Elvis called J'Elvis Yasumasa Mori.  He's very cool and is mainly on stage in Tokyo.  Some people in other countries or those foreigners who live in Japan might want to listen to his songs and Oldies music.

Yasumasa Mori not only sings Elvis songs but also sings a large variety of other songs. He is considered to be a great performer by almost all people but even more so by girls like me who simply love him.

Yasumasa Mori has 18 years of singing and entertaining experience. Through years of hard work, he has become well known to many Elvis fans throughout the world. Yasumasa in not your typical Elvis Impersonator!  He is determined to convince every Elvis-lover that Elvis is there on stage, while he performs.  One might rather call him an Elvis INTERPRETER.

One of Yasumasa's lifelong dreams came true in 1991, when he competed in the highly regarded International Elvis Impersonator Contest, taking second place.   Yasumasa was determined to return to Memphis to compete again.  His dedication to singing, entertaining, and karate skills, showed in his performance.  He captured the hearts of thousands of people, winning the title of #1 World Champion Elvis Impersonator of 1992. (Yasumasa is the first Non-American to participate and win this prestigious honor).  (Related: iPod docking station)

Yasumasa has had excellent reviews, has made the cover of several newspapers, and has been featured in many articles all over the world.  Yasumasa's talents have also been recognized by several radio stations, as well as TV programs. (WREG Channel 3 TN, Italian News, Australian News, CNN, NBC, Japanese TV, MTV Asia ; Readers' Digest, Times, Life, and Newsweek Magazine)

Some recent highlights of Yasumasa's career are :

  • Performing on Kaui Island for Blue Hawaii Week.  (James Burton and Charlie Hodge-Elvis' guitarist and friend, also performed with Yasumasa-Suspicious Minds.)
  • Yasumasa has his own fan club of 200 people.
  • Yasumasa has had favorable feedback while performing in the King's hometown, Memphis, TN ; with his talented band T.C.B. (August '93, '95, '97 , '99 & 2000)

One of Yasumasa's goals while performing is to make the audience happy, which he does extremely well!  He just wants Japanese people to know about the legend of Elvis!
