Despite the fact that
Japan has a somewhat different calendar, Japanese people still
celebrate the western new year. And another irony is that in a
country where people do not necessarily consider themselves
religious in the same way as say evangelical Christians do, the
shrines are packed around the new year. The photo below is an

students studying at Showa Boston - the US campus of the
