How
to take care of combination skin?
Since
you have two types of skins, you need to be very careful with
applying the right skincare product in right area
By Lisa Kramer
| Combination skin is easy to identify since the forehead and the nose (T zone) are shiny and the cheeks are dry. The pores in the nose are big and the pores in the cheeks are small or at least smaller than in the nose. In other words, you have two types of skin: dry or normal in the cheeks and oily in the forehead and nose. The oily part of you looks shiny, feels oily at touch, and it tends to develop black and white heads. If you tend to have acne, these are the areas where you will get the most pimples. On the positive side, it is a strong and resistant skin and it develops less expression lines than other skin types.

Some dermatologists think that in some cases there could be a medical reason for this imbalance called seborrheic eczema. In that case, you can you may want to see a doctor. You need to help your skin to strike the right balance. To change this skin type is relatively easy and nothing to worry; it is just a skin type and each type has advantages and disadvantages.
How to take care of combination skin?
Keep your skin clean. Use a cleanser preferably without strong perfumes or colors. Avoid using strong products designed for oily skin; these products tend to be extremely drying and can be too drastic for your dry part. The products designed for normal to oily skin are better for you. Try not to use soap, because it may be too alkaline for the skin. If you can clean it three times a day, that will be ideal for your skin type. If not possible, try to clean at least in the morning and evening (before going to bed).
As with any skin type, always take your makeup off before bed. As Gloria Estefan said, “It does not matter how tired I am, I always take my makeup off before sleeping.” If you do not take it off, you are obstructing your pores and they cannot breathe. This may result in the development of blackheads or pimples.
Olga Lorencin-Nothrup of Kinara Spa says that the worst mistake
women can make with their skin is to sleep with their makeup on.
Your cleanser does not have to be special for oily skin, but a cleanser with salicylic acid may be good if you have tendency to acne.
The use of toner is controversial among skin experts. You do not really need it with the modern cleansers, but it feels good on the skin and helps to eliminate residues from the cleanser. Do not use toners with alcohol, because they are too strong for your cheeks.
Apply a moisturizer for your skin type or normal to oily skin. If you are over 30, you may want to use a special moisturizer with active anti-aging ingredients at night. In winter, or if you live in a dry place, try to always have on hand a moisturizer for your cheeks if they feel too dry. In the morning always use sun protector in your face, arms, and hands. Proceed with your
non-comedogenic makeup.
Weekly care
One or twice a week, try to apply a mask to purify your skin such as clay mask in the oily areas and a moisturizer mask in the dry areas. Avoid a mask with strong drying ingredients (such as sulfur ) that may irritate your cheeks.
Twice a week, exfoliate your face to eliminate dead cells. Do not over-exfoliate if you use a moisturizer with AHA or retinal. You may exfoliate only once a week.
